Stena takes leadership in Low Carbon Alliance
Leading ship owners and operators, classification societies, engine and technology builders and suppliers, big data providers, and oil companies together with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) have signed up to a new Global Industry Alliance (GIA) to support transitioning shipping and its related industries towards a low carbon future.
Together, the GIA partners will collectively identify and develop innovative solutions to address common barriers to the uptake and implementation of energy efficiency technologies and operational measures. Claes Berglund, Director Public Affairs & Sustainability at Stena, was elected as Chairman for the Alliance and already during the first meeting a number of potentially substantial initiatives was discussed.
“Stena is a leading company in sustainable shipping solutions and we are proud to be one of the companies that has been invited by IMO to contribute to this important work”, says Claes Berglund. “Together with other industry leaders, I´m hopeful we will develop sustainable global solutions for shipping” – he continues.
